Loving Afghan Refugees Through Lasting Relationships…..For the Glory of God
Friends of Afghans is a Missional Community of Living Way Fellowship. Our vision is to see Afghan Refugees, who have been resettled to the Denver area due to the life altering experiences within their own country of Afghanistan, become a thriving part of our community through relationships, training and securing a future for both themselves and their children.
What we do
Through our prayers, financial giving and volunteer hours we become a friend to an Afghan family. Our goal is to build relationships with them and their children in order to provide support to them. This is done through conversational English, hosting family events that introduce them to American culture, Drivers Education training, and day to day practical skills experience (riding the bus, opening a bank account, registering children for school). As relationships are built our volunteers become trusted friends and are most often seen as part of the family. An environment is then created that allows spiritual conversations to take place. We strive to meet both practical & relational needs by coming alongside our Afghan friends and bringing the winsome presence of Jesus into their lives.
How we do it
Through Prayer - We host weekly prayer times to pray for our Afghan friends by praying for them to be blessed and to hear how the Lord would have each of us be a blessing.
Through Serving - We spend time each week visiting our Afghan families and live out being a blessing in practical ways.
Through Hosting - We host quarterly events for our Afghan families and their volunteer friends. These events provide an opportunity for relationships to grow through fun activities, good food and a relaxed atmosphere. An Afghan child said after a recent event, "This was the best day ever!"

Become a Volunteer Partner - We value welcoming the stranger among us! “When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.” Leviticus 19:33-34
